Government and Housing Agency Data Sharing

VoucherMatch shares anonymized, de-identified data with accredited government agencies, housing authorities, non-profit housing organizations, and academic researchers to support housing policy research and improve access to voucher-based housing in New York City. This may include agencies such as HPD, HRA, NYCHA, and similar bodies.

What is shared

  • Voucher type, bedroom size, issuing agency, and voucher amount
  • Household size (number of adults and children)
  • Employment status and monthly income range
  • Credit score range and eviction history (yes/no)
  • Geographic data limited to borough and neighborhood (no street addresses)
  • Application status, outcomes, and stage-by-stage timeline
  • A pseudonymous applicant identifier consistent within our dataset (not your name, email, or any directly identifying information)

What is never shared

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Street address or apartment number
  • Case worker contact information
  • Employer name or landlord contact information

Landlord data

Landlord names, email addresses, and performance data (application response rates, approval rates, inspection pass rates) may be shared with government housing agencies as part of landlord accountability and fair housing monitoring programs. By listing on VoucherMatch, landlords acknowledge that their performance data may be included in such reports.

Aggregate reports

We also produce and share fully aggregated, statistical reports (e.g., monthly placement rates by borough) that contain no individual-level records of any kind.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption, secure servers, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and associated personal data
  • Opt out of marketing communications
  • Request a copy of your data
  • Request that your data be excluded from future research data sharing (note: previously shared anonymized records that cannot be linked back to you cannot be recalled from third parties)

To exercise any of these rights, contact privacy@vouchermatch.nyc.
